About
Adam Possamai is an Associate Professor in sociology at the University of Western Sydney. He is the author of Religion and Popular Culture: A Hyper-Real Testament (Peter Lang), In Search of New Age Spiritualities (Ashgate) and Sociology of Religion for Generations X and Y (Equinox). He is a former President of the Australian Association for the Study of Religion and editor of the Australian Religion Studies Review. He is currently the Secretary/Treasurer of the Executive Board of RC22 on the sociology of religion from the International Sociological Association (the most international sociology of religion association). He was the programme coordinator for the Sociology of Religion section (RC22) at the last World Congress of Sociology in 2006 in South Africa and for an international conference in Manila on the sociology of religion in 2008. He gave the 2007 Charles Strong Lecture, which is a yearly lecture given in Australia by leading scholars in the study of religions.
